Forest Department

The Department deals with the administration of Forest and Environment, mines and minerals etc and all types of Forest produces. The Council has the- following Acts and Rules, viz: -
(1) The U.K.J.H.A.D (Management and Control of Forest) Act, 1958,
(2) The U.K.J.H.A.D (Management and Control of Forest) Rules, 1960,
(3) The U.K.J.H.A.D (Management and Control of Forest) (Rate and Royalty) Rules, 1959. The Department has 6 Officer, 1 Chief Forest Officer, 2 Dy. Chief Forest Officers and 3 Assistant Forest Officers with 225 staff. The Department has also 2 Honorary Forest Advisers, one Committee called Environment Committee, with a Chairman and Vice Chairman and four non-official Members. Functioning of Forest Department

1. Registration of Private/Community Forest.
2. Issuing permit for Timber.
3. Issuing property hammer mask.
4. Registration for coal dealer and supplier.
5. Issuing of NOC Furniture/Sand/Stone/Limestone/Quarry stone etc.
6. Issuing permit of minor Forest produce.
7. Collection of share of royalty from the Government of Meghalaya.
8. Collection of share of royalty on minor forest produce from Government of Meghalaya.
9. Preparation of working scheme.
10. Maintain and management of protected forest and waste land of the council.
11. Collection of revenue from timber.
12. NOC for setting up of Cement Plan.
