Legislative Department
Constitution of District Council - The Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils Rules 1951 as adopted and amended from time to time by the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council.
Administration of the Legislative Department - This Department is headed by the Chairman District Council who appoint the Secretary District Council to look after the affairs of the Legislative Department.
Structure and function - The duties of the Legislative Department is to look after the smooth running of the Council sessions at least 3 times in a year.

Council Session - They are the meeting of the District Council commencing three time a year under the Leadership of the Chairman District Council.
Jurisdiction and power of Legislative - The Secretary District Council is to look after the office and to issue notice for each and every session to all the Members of the District Council and all the proceedings of the sessions are to be submitted to the Governor along with the Bills and Resolution of the District Council for Authentication of the Governor.
Chairman - Head of the office.
Deputy Chairman - To assist the Chairman in his absence.
